Euphorbia lagascae seed oil obtained by pre-pressing and solvent extraction

This study evaluated the oil extraction from Euphorbia lagascae seeds by pre-pressing followed solvent extraction. The objective was to assess effect of starting seed moisture content (MC) and heating temperature on extractability quality pressed solvent-extracted oils. expelling conditions (5% 10% MC) that were subjected three levels (ambient, 60 °C 104 for 20 min) then screw-pressed. press cakes extracted with hexane using a Soxhlet extractor. Among MC heat treatment combinations evaluated, 5% heated at produced cake 16.4% suitable Pre-pressing E. without flaking adequately prepared recovering 99.8% total oil. combined press- hexane-extracted oils had lowest free fatty acid (FFA, 1.15%), diacylglycerides (DAG, 1.55%), phospholipids (39 ppm P) contents. vernolic composition practically remained same. Oil refining is necessary reduce FFA color meet specifications intended application.
